I ♥ my city

First of all I have to honest: I think I was in London when I came across the latest number of @natgeotraveler magazine. “I ♥ my city”. New York, Amsterdam, Milan, Edinburgh or Beirut; Writers from around the globe wrote about the cities they were living in and have stolen their hearts. And it was simply wonderful because I could feel how fond they grew of those cities and I could indeed picture all those “cherished corners, hidden gems, and secret standbys”. And then it stroke me too: I love my city as well. I can’t go aaaall the way down admitting that I am absolutely and unequivocally in love with my country, but I do love my city.
So finding myself in front of my laptop and trying to put together whatever it is that I’m always saying in order to convince people to visit Cluj, I feel a bit trapped. It has always been so easy to talk about this city and yet, here I am, taking me forever to write about the reasons that made me fall in love with it.

So it’s been 6 years since Cluj adopted me as one of its own. Or at least this is how I feel, even though ‘Servus’ is definitely not a routine in my vocabulary and it’s been only one month since I’ve first tried the ‘Varza a la Cluj’ dish. Still feeling like home, nevertheless. Still discovering new pretty corners on daily basis, still enjoying new lights on old streets and old shadows on new streets and most important embracing all of these changes that this city is going through. And trust me, Cluj has been changing a lot in the past few years and now it feels more alive than ever.
If I were to say, I think it might have a bit of everything: it has its charisma from its people whom are always willing to change and to improve, it has its magic from all the old buildings, it has a drop of playfulness from the ‘La Ursuleti’ sign from Ferdinand Street, it has its class from the ‘National Theater’ and from a handful of stylish events taking place all year round, it has its courage from one too many new projects implementations, it has its stamina from hosting so many competitions along the year and last but not least Cluj is simply delicious. There are, hands down, so many heavenly tempting restaurants, bars and pubs that one might find himself in the difficulty of choosing but one.

There is, of course, room for improvement. Always will be. But personally, I find myself so in love with this city mostly because all these changes that has been through are noticeable, remarkable and they deserve the chance to be closely…discovered.
